History tells us that when America (and here I'm referring to all Americas and not only North America) was discovered, the explorers would come here only to take the gold and precious stones, good wood, to rape the native women, and to make the natives their slaves. Then they would just leave with their ships full of gold and their "necessities" satisfied.

Not so different from what happens on SL. Many men here don't have the intention to share, or to give, or to open their hearts to you. But to have their own needs satisfied. And as long as they have it, they just get bored and disappear, on a sudden, or little by little. So, for emotional protection,  it is best not to get too emotionally involved.
