LIVE YOUR FANTASY!... written by Valkiria Fox

SECRET WEDNESDAY

Everybody knows about the bad facts about playing Second Life. As an immersive game, it is addictive. And it takes your money, yes, as well as a part of your Real Life time that you could be spending with friends or family. And as behind every avatar there is a human being, SL can be hurtful for the soul. And I hadn't still said that it's a dream, an illusion...and who wants to live of illusions?

But I'm not here to talk about SL problems, but about the good things it can provide.
As a very shy person in Real Life, I always had difficulty to talk with people, to compliment, to say a Good Morning or Good Evening. I always felt the need to run and hide or to turn invisible so no one could see me. I have to agree that SL helped me much with that. First I discovered that if I complimented someone, I wouldn't die, or be eaten, everything would be OK. Then I thought that probably the same would happen in Real Life if I tried. I cannot say that nowadays I'm a very talkative person in Real Life, but I can say that I'm not anymore a hermit and that it does not hurt to say Hi to someone anymore. I can do it with no problem. Second Life shows you that you can do more than you believe you are able to, and seeing yourself on the game doing this, it is a huge incentive for you to try in Real Life. Good for shy and insecure people.
Second Life is also great to the development of our creativity. It is like a white frame where you can paint it with your own colors. It is just there, waiting for you to express yourself, to show the beauty there is inside of you, so others can also see it. You are not tied to your Real Life body anymore, not locked in the abilities that you may or may not have. You are free! In that sense SL can provide a wonderful experience to people that are in hospitals, or that for any reason have locomotion issues and many other situations.
Another point is that after some time Second Life starts to be too small for your dreams. You don't want to dream it anymore, you want to live it! Don't want to be the rest of my life playing that I'm happy. I want to be it! Want to feel it, want to touch it, want to smell it! So I believe that SL also can be a stimulus for us to get out of our mediocre lives and start to live! Why should we be satisfied with an illusion? We deserve more! We should always try to go further despite of all the obstacles and difficulties that life brings to us.
