MIRROR by Sylvia Plath

Dear Second Life,

What better way than great music and beautiful poetry and art to enrich the mind.
Both my daughter and I love reading poetry though sometimes I like to pretend
that I know how to compose a good poem. Silly me, I know ;P
But if you know me well, you will know that not having an ounce of talent
when it comes to poetry writing won't be an excuse to stop me from trying. Just like
with this photo of my image in the mirror. It is my first attempt to try a reflection in
a Second Life photo and though I had an epic fail, I still choose to see this disproportioned
image as art. Aren't there many kinds of art and all have beauty in them?
I bet my photo has to fall into one of those categories. And to be honest with you,
the more I look at it, the more I like it and feel proud of myself (patting myself on the back).

But going back to poetry,
Mirror by Sylvia Plath has to be one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read.
My daughter showed it to me a long time ago and it just got stuck in my head since then.
You must know that my daughter is a huge fan of Mrs. Plath's poetry and we usually share the
same taste for poetry, music, art, and even cinematography.

Hope you enjoy the poem and the music I have chosen as much as I do.
And I ask that you please look at the photo I took for this post with an open mind,
better yet, with artistic eyes ;)

Forever Yours,

Mirror
by Sylvia Plath

I am silver and exact. I have no preconceptions.
Whatever you see I swallow immediately
Just as it is, unmisted by love or dislike.
I am not cruel, only truthful---
The eye of a little god, four-cornered.
Most of the time I meditate on the opposite wall.
It is pink, with speckles. I have looked at it so long
I think it is a part of my heart. But it flickers.
Faces and darkness separate us over and over.
Now I am a lake. A woman bends over me,
Searching my reaches for what she really is.
Then she turns to those liars, the candles or the moon.
I see her back, and reflect it faithfully.
She rewards me with tears and an agitation of hands.
I am important to her. She comes and goes.
Each morning it is her face that replaces the darkness.
In me she has drowned a young girl, and in me an old woman
Rises toward her day after day, like a terrible fish.
