Dear Second Life,
I just finished watching American Beauty, a 1999 flick starring Kevin Spacey and directed by Sam Mendez
(SEE FULL CAST & CREW HERE), and all I got to say is that I am still in awe.
Love all the characters, all so very complex, yet my favorite one was Ricky, played by actor Wes Bentley.
I love how he can see beauty even in the most ordinary things. I was able to find this vid of one of the things
he captured. Absolutely a beautiful "dance with the wind".
Ricky Fitts (Wes Bentley) describes his neighbor friend Jane (Thora Birch)
a videotape that he had filmed - of a plastic bag "dancing" in the wind:
"Do you want to see the most beautiful thing I've ever filmed?
It was one of those days when it's a minute away from snowing, and there's this electricity in the air,
you can almost hear it. And this bag was just, dancing with me, like a little kid beggin' me to play with it - for fifteen minutes.
And that's the day I realized that there was this entire life behind things,
and this incredibly benevolent force that wanted me to know that there was no reason to be afraid, ever.
Video's a poor excuse, I know. But it helps me remember - I need to remember.
Sometimes, there's so much beauty in the world -
I feel like I can't take it, like my heart is just going to cave in."

It takes not only special eyes to see the beauty that surrounds us every day but an open heart as well.
Most things in life need to be felt first before their beauty can be fully appreciated.

WARNING: MOVIE SPOILER
Here's my favorite monologue of the movie (the ending).
"I had always heard your entire life flashes in front of your eyes the second before you die.
First of all, that one second isn't a second at all, it stretches on forever, like an ocean of time...
For me, it was lying on my back at Boy Scout camp, watching falling stars...
And yellow leaves, from the maple trees, that lined my street...
Or my grandmother's hands, and the way her skin seemed like paper...
And the first time I saw my cousin Tony's brand new Firebird...
And Janie... And Janie... And... Carolyn.
I guess I could be pretty pissed off about what happened to me...
but it's hard to stay mad, when there's so much beauty in the world.
Sometimes I feel like I'm seeing it all at once, and it's too much,
my heart fills up like a balloon that's about to burst...
And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it,
and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything
but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life...
You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."
