Creating Our Future Heroes

Dear Second Life,
How can I not be thankful for all of my readers?
You truly have no idea how much I appreciate each and every one of you.
Allow me now to share something with you...

Once again we almost reached the 1000 pageviews in a day.
But you know what is the best part about this? With these many views, my "Feed The Homeless" article
has a better chance of getting more of you involved in this act of kindness. For those of you that will be
participating, I am thanking you in advance. We can really make this world a much better place if we all
add our small grain of sand. By the time we know it and with all these acts of kindness, we will start to
form a mountain or at least a small hill ;)

I know many of you would like to participate but are not able to do it for different reasons. Still, many
thanks to you too. Maybe you can participate in future Acts Of Kindness with us. But before I continue,
I do need to apologize for the post (Feed The Homeless) appearing until today. I had scheduled it to be
published Saturday night and for some reason, it didn't.

Back in my Pico days when I used to write for children in my Pico Perfect Blog, the acts of kindness
that I would ask them to join me in were smaller, and by smaller I mean I would ask of the things that
I knew a child could be able to do. Because, in reality, there are no small acts of kindness in the world.
Anything that is done to help another person is equally valuable and great!

For example, I would ask them to draw a nice picture or write a story or a poem and give it to a friend
or a teacher or to say hi and smile at someone they had never talked to in school. Other examples
include telling their parents how much they loved them and thanking them for everything they have
done for them. Sometimes reading a book to a younger sibling or helping mom around the house or dad
in the yard were some of the things I would encourage them to do.

You can't imagine how happy and proud this would make them feel. I would receive their emails filled
with such enthusiasm, eager to let me know how happy they had made the "act of kindness" recipients.
They were able to experience the joy of bringing joy to others with their good actions and that is
something that will help them grow up to be kind and caring people.

I do miss all my Picos so much and intend to go back to writing for them again very soon. I know it's
been so long since I've been to my Pico Blog and I realize that these beautiful children are now scattered
all over the net since Ameba Pico is no longer open. I, however, do have faith that I may be able to hear
from some of them through my blog. I have noticed that even though it's been nine months since I last
posted anything for them, they continue to visit the blog every day. You have no idea what my heart is
feeling at this very moment. Knowing that there are still many of them visiting the blog, maybe to
remember old times or perhaps to see if I am back, just fills me with so much tenderness and sadness.
These children gave me so much love, the purest and most honest love any person can ever receive. I
was very, very fortunate to have them in my life and to be part of theirs. To know that I was able to help
their little troubled hearts and to put a smile on their faces fills my heart with a sense of accomplishment
but at the same time, a sense that I could have done more for them
... and that I can still do more for them.

Being there for them when they needed me is nothing compared to what they gave me in return.
They will never know how wonderfully each one of them touched my life. They gave me their trust
but above all, they gave me their love. They helped me see the beauty of their hearts and the beauty
of this world through their eyes.

The purest love is that of a child.
They love unconditionally for they do not know hate or discrimination.
Teaching them early in life that we all can bring joy to others with our good actions is one of the best
gifts we can give them as a parent. The true heroes in the world are those that live their lives caring for
all humanity and take action to make a difference. We must set a good example for them, for they are in
constant learning, absorbing what they see and what they hear, which ultimately will have a huge
impact on the type of person they will grow up to be.

Love your children
and be the greatest example for them
and with that and your love,
they will grow up to be the greatest heroes earth has ever seen!
