Dear Second Life,
Reading yesterday's article by Valki, made me realize how true her words are. I too have lived my
happiest moments in Japan, Tempura Island but I also have felt the deepest sadness there. How can the
same place provoke two extremely different emotions?
Time and circumstances have much to do with this. It is not the place itself, but the people that we
choose to surround us with that can influence the mood. Negative people will eventually dim the mood
while positive people will add joy and make the place more lively. So it is possible that the same place
we love so much can often make us the saddest, just like with people. Sometimes the person that we
may love the most can be the exact person that has hurt us the most. However, I find myself always
returning even if this is causing me some heartache. I see it as a sign of faith rather than a weakness. I
have never given up on people so why should I give up on a place that has been so good to me and has
added countless beautiful and unforgettable moments to my Second Life experience.
This time, however, as I slowly returned, I walked cautiously in, guarding my heart and also being more
careful of who I allow getting too close to me. I have learned that not all people are as genuine as they
appear. Before, my trust was always 100% in every person I met. So foolish, I know! I was the kind of
person that would trust now and find out more about them later. I don't know if that was a good thing or
not, but it brought me so many disappointments and problems, not to mention pain.
So dear Second Life,
know that I am not giving up on you, or on your beautiful sims and especially not on the residents that
have made SL their second home. I am just more awake to the dangers that for some reason I used to
ignore before. Caution is my number one rule from now on.
