SECRET WEDNESDAY
It's not a newness that SL forces our graphic cards into their extremes. Since I play SL, I have had
problems with graphic cards 3 times. The first time it was just burnt and I had to exchange it
for a new one. Took one endless month, because it was on the guarantee, and so I would need to have
patience if I didn't want to pay. It's useless to tell how hurtful the waiting was! The second time,
already traumatized by the last happening, I ran to the repair store and begged the technician...
-Please! Please! I need it for yesterday! It's really important! Life or death reason! Please!
The technician looked at me with a kind of contempt expression and a smile on the corner of his mouth:
"-You do play Second Life, don't you?"
-Yes, yes!
"-Ahhhhhhh, so now it explains."
He gave a big laugh that made me feel soooo small and he said:
"-Take a sit and wait. I will tell you what's going on in a minute."
Ashamed of my exposed despair, I seated on a chair and waited. While I was waiting a man arrived
at the repair store. He looked middle-aged and got there in a hurry as to someone that was about
to lose the train.
"-My graphic card is not working! I need this computer for today, it's an emergency!"
So I looked at him, at that time the smile was mine. I was not the only one in this world dealing with computer problems!
Who would that man be if he was also playing SL? Maybe I knew him?
Would he be a man or a woman there? And why the hurry? Maybe he had a love waiting for him there?...
All those questions came to my mind and I thought how strange it was to see in front of me someone
that could also join that wonderful and crazy second world. I could know him, or not. I would never
know and would never have the courage to ask. He was a complete stranger that shared another world
with me... what a weird feeling... In the end, the cause of the damage in my graphic card was excess humidity, as I was living by the sea at that time. I had to buy a new one, the old one was completely oxidized.
Last week my graphic card just stopped working, Again!!!
So one more time I did the marathon to the repair shop, but this time the technician said:
"-Tomorrow is a holiday and after it's the weekend, so only next week I will be able to give you news about your computer."
I was sad and came home, frustrated and bothered. But on Monday the technician called me:
"-Do you have a dog or cat?"
-Cats.
"-Ahhhh...the problem with your graphic card is excess of cat fur! I could not stop sneezing,
was already thinking that I had caught a cold, but it was my cat allergy. Well, I did a completely clean
and it's working again. You can take your computer back tomorrow."
Conclusion:
I will have to limit the hours that my cats spend on the Internet! :p
